LSWHS Orchestra Information for 2015-16

Hello Orchestra Students and Parents:

The 2015-16 school year is about to start and I am very excited about how great all three of the orchestras at LSWHS are going to be this year!

This email contains information about all-district and all-state orchestra auditions as well as a calendar of our events for the year. I have also attached a pdf version of our calendar if you want to print it out and post it somewhere. If you would like to add our calendar to your Google calendars the link for sharing the calendar is: Orchestra Google Calendar Link

I encourage all students to try out for all district orchestra. A pdf document of the audition music can be found here: All District Audition Music Link you will want to find the pages that have your instrument and print only those pages. This audition music is a shortened version of what is required to try out for the Missouri All State Orchestra. You can find recordings of professionals playing these auditions at this link: Missouri All State Recordings

Also, if you are planning on audition for the Missouri All-State Orchestra in December, that audition music is found here: Missouri All State Audition Music

This year, you will find pdf versions of all music we play in this shared folder: LSWHS Orchestra Music 2015-16 This folder will begin to have music in it during the first part of August. Students will receive one copy of music. If they lose the music, they can print their own from this folder.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR EACH ORCHESTRA MEMBER

The Missouri State High School Activities Association requires that all students be eligible to participate in activity related classes such as orchestra. Part of your eligibility requirements dictate that you attend an informational meeting about state rules, conduct and activity procedures. Lee’s Summit West High School calls this meeting CLASH OF THE TITANS. This meeting will be held on Saturday, August 8th at 10:30am in the Performing Arts Center. If you are in town and able to come, this is the best time for you to take care of this eligibility requirement. This is for all music performing groups as well as sports teams. There is a Chris Cakes fundraiser ($5.00 each) that supports student scholarships. If you would like to come enjoy the Chris Cakes, they will be served from 8:30 – 10:30am. The order of events at the 10:30 meeting is:

· Debbie Katzfey, LSW Assistant Principal/Athletic Director – Citizenship/MSHSAArequirements

· Guest Speaker:

· R7 Commitment Signing by all students & parents

TEXTING

Texting is no longer allowed between faculty and students per district board policy. I know many of you have texted me in the past and I have responded, however, because the school district has made an official decree – I will no longer be responding to student texts. Here is the district information as I received it from our Activities Director, Debbie Katzfey:

2. Texting individual students is not allowed per board policy. You may text students if you put them in a group. Example: put your drumline in a group text when sending out information. A question may come up: What if a student texted me? You can respond however be very short and if there is a concern as to what they texted you don’t respond come see me. Group texts are OK. Just not individual ones.

HOWEVER, I will be sending out group-texts for each class. Follow the links below to join REMIND for the orchestra you are in. REMIND is a group texting program that keeps all numbers private and allows me to text students and parents orchestra information. Please use your phone number when prompted. I encourage both students and parents to do this:

If you are in Symphony follow this link to join: remind.com/join/mosiersym

If you are in Philharmonic follow this link to join:
