2012 MMEA Program

The LSW Wind Ensemble was invited to perform at the 2017 Missouri Music Educators Conference and Workshop after previously performing at MMEA in 2012. At the 2012 performance, under the direction of Clifton Thurmond, the band performed an outstanding concert featuring two new compositions: one by Associate Band Director Shawn Harrel and a rousing finale by Orchestra Director Kirt Mosier. The band will continues to build on its tradition of excellence each year!

WIND ENSEMBLE SYMPHONIC BAND & CONCERT BAND
The concert band season at Lee’s Summit West starts after marching band comes to a conclusion, typically the end of October. Students audition for chair and band placement in the spring the previous year. The students that comprise each band meet every morning during 2nd (Concert Band), 3rd (Symphonic Band) or 4th hour (Wind Ensemble).
The Wind Ensemble and and Concert Band are directed by Mr. Thurmond and Symphonic Band is directed by Mr. Harrel. Both bands work on a wide variety of music for several concerts throughout the year. In addition to the above bands, Mr. Thurmond directs the Percussion Class (percussion ensemble) which meets during 1st hour every day. Students from this class will play ensembles as well as participated in the concerts with the three bands.

MARCHING BAND
Previous Titan Pride Marching band shows have been entitled, “The Heist,” “Heavy Metal” (music of Metallica), “Spin,” “Aerodynamics,” “Syndrome,” “Beethoven Lives,” “Shine,” and “Wild, Wild West.” The shows have been composed and arranged by LSW’s Orchestra Director Kirt Mosier and Associate Band Director Shawn Harrel. LSW-SHINE-BandThe marching band is directed by Clif Thurmond and Shawn Harrel. The band works hard five days a week during class, then meets twice a week on Tuesday nights and Thursday nights (always check the calendar!).
The Titan Pride Marching Band is always looking ahead at the next performance/competition and we’re sure the coming years will continue to bring success.

JAZZ BAND
Titan Jazz meets outside the school day starting with small groups and sectionals in the fall then shifting into full gear once marching band is over. Typically Titan Jazz meets after school Tuesday & Thursday. The band plays a wide variety of music by classic and contemporary composers. The band has been frequently recognized as an “Outstanding Ensemble” at various local jazz festivals. The band is directed by Shawn Harrel. In 2011, the members of the Titan Jazz rhythm section were each honored as members of the Kansas City All District Jazz ensembles. Titan Jazz bassist Blair Bryant (class of 2012) was selected as an Missouri All-State Jazz Band Alternate bassist in 2011. Isaiah Carter (class of 2014) was selected as the Missouri All-State Jazz drummer for the 2013 band and as the vibraphonist in the 2014 band.
