All District Jazz Auditions

There have been a few changes to the format for auditions for district and state jazz bands. The audition information is available here at the MOAJE website:

http://www.moaje.org/index.php/all-state-jazz-band/set-1

The clinicians have been selected, and they’re both great!

  • Gold Band will have Kris Berg – bio
  • Blue Band will have Joe Parisi – bio

The audition process will look like this:

  • Winds will play the head & one chorus of solo on both The Preacher & Kenny’ll Make It. Rhythm section instruments will play the melody first time, comp or walk second time, and improvise third time.
  • Winds will play the etudes with mp3 accompaniment. NO SOLOS. Rhythm section instruments should be prepared to perform with MP3 accompaniment with their track muted on the recording.
  • Drums should be able to demonstrate a variety of styles, including Samba, Bossa, Waltz, and Funk.

Here’s the schedule:

  •  Saturday, November 3 – Auditions at Staley HS
  • Wednesday, November 28 – Sectionals & rehearsal at Lincoln Prep (To be run by us district directors. Similar to the band’s first rehearsal, but with sectionals.)
  • Friday, December 7 – Rehearsal with clinician
  • Saturday, December 8 – Morning rehearsal with clinician. Possible afternoon sectionals, rehearsal, or clinics with the clinicians. Park Hill South HS
  • Saturday, December 8 – Concert at Park Hill South HS.

Titan Pride Band Update

The Titan Pride is off to a great start. We represented ourselves well on national TV this past Saturday as we helped our football team to a great victory. As I watched the game at home later that evening, I was impressed with the sound of the band coming through on TV. Although we were not very well covered visually, we received some high praise from many.

I will be sending you emails occasionally to help keep you updated on the goings on in marching band.

This week is fairly slow, so not much to report except that we have a rehearsal TONIGHT from 5:55pm to 9pm.

And, now, for some business reminders:

1. If you have a boy in our program, he was supposed to bring home a Tuxedo Sizing form and return it LAST Friday. Well, only some have done so. If you could send this form with your son, along with a check for $22 (or cash) made payable to LSWHS, it will really help us in preparation for the concert season.

2. We are in the middle of a fundraiser that benefits each individual student that participates. Your child should have a cookie dough fundraiser packet to sell cookie dough to friends and neighbors. The profit made from this will be put into that individual’s account to be used for future expenses, i.e. the NYC trip. This sale ends (and all orders/money should be turned in by this time) on Wednesday, September 5th.

3. Speaking of the NYC trip, our DEADLINE payment is due on September 1st, which is Saturday. Please make sure your payments equal $900 no later than Saturday. If this is not the case, we will need to remove your child from participation on the trip, as we MUST have firm numbers by this point. Here is the payment schedule in case you need one:

12:15 PM – All students must arrive by this time.

Choir Dresses

Dear Choir Parents,

Mrs. Krinke and Mrs. Pabst are in need of 2-3 moms who could come in this Wed (22nd) for dress sizings. Mrs. Pabst is injured right now, so it would be extremely helpful if some of our great volunteers could come assist her. We would need you at the LSW choir room from 8:30-11:15 and then 1:00-1:40. There’s a very good chance we may have a few to finish up the next day, as well, with Wednesday being a shorter class period day for the students.

If you are able to help, please email Terrin Pabst at terrin.pabst@leesummit.k12.mo.us as soon as possible.

Thank you in advance for supporting our choirs at LSW.

Choir Liason,

Gay Beth Bingham

First Home Football Game

It is very exciting that our first home game will be televised on ESPN. Plan on tailgating with the Band Parents beginning Saturday at 11AM. We will have the grill set up and ready to go in the grassy area on the south side of the school near the door to the building by the band room. Please bring something to throw on the grill for your family, along with one side dish to share with everyone.

At 11:30AM, we will begin preparing lunch for the marching band and guard. For the new band parents, you will have your first opportunity to see what the parent volunteers do to take care of our band! Plans are to serve the band at 12:30PM. Information will come from Mr.Thurmond regarding the timing of activities for the band.

We hope to see you at 11 :00 Saturday morning ready to cheer on the band (and Titan football)!

Thanks,
Bret Fischer

Cookie Dough Fundraiser

The cookie dough fundraiser will be starting Monday, August 20 and will continue until Sept 3. There are brochures available at school. See your teacher for more information.

Welcome Back!

It’s the first day of school and (as always) we’re looking forward to a great year full of wonderful performances from all the outstanding musical ensembles at LSW.

Please check the calendar provided by your ensemble teacher for the current events. The online calendar is not currently working as expected.

Band members need to access the band handbook and read it before signing their contract sheet and listing any conflicts that might exist.

Let’s have another great year Titans!
