LSWMP January news and notes

Greetings,

Things are starting to pick up in the music program and it’s a very exciting time. On to the news and notes:

Music Festival

– This is quickly coming and there will be an email shortly. There are two parts to the music festival: solo/small ensemble and large ensemble. To give you an idea of how many people go through LSW – last year we had 6,800 performers over 6 days, 207 volunteer spots, we covered 850 hours with 126 unique volunteers!

Second Semester Choir Events – DATE CHANGE

Dear Choir Families,

The second semester is off and running here at LSW. Indeed, we have busy yet exciting semester ahead in the Choral Department.

The date for Parade of Choirs has changed. The correct date is April 26. This is a change from what was distributed back in August when we released the first calendar. This is a required performance for ALL choir students. I’ve included the 2nd semester calendar at the bottom of this email for your reference.

Also, I am excited to welcome our fantastic student teacher Mr. Connor Scott into our Titan Choir family. Mr. Scott, comes to us from Webster University in St. Louis and will be student teaching at LSW through mid-April. I’ve attached a welcome letter from him to this email as well.

Have a fantastic weekend!

Amy Krinke

LSW Music Parents news and notes

Good evening/morning,

I know that it’s been a while since my last email. I’ve taken a week to recover from just over 2 ½ months of 70 hour work weeks with only a couple days off.

There hasn’t been much going on in the world of the music parents, any correspondence that’s been needed has been sent via the teachers. One of our biggest events of the year is coming up the beginning of March and with this comes the opportunity to volunteer and show many throughout the area what LSWHS is all about. Look for information to start coming out in the next couple weeks for volunteer opportunities.

Needs:
Volunteers – Without parents stepping up this organization isn’t able to provide the assistance that our music department greatly needs. We could use help in all areas and I’m adjusting the roles document for the positions as they’ve changed the past couple of years. We do have some current committee needs however:
Music Festival – It would be great to have a few people in leadership roles besides myself that can help facilitate the events, one person running this by themselves is simply too much. I’m going through the notes for this currently and have several positions that will need help.

Taste of Lee’s Summit – This is held in the evening of March 5. If you’re unable to help with the district competition please consider helping with this. Last year I volunteered at the district competition and TOLS, I enjoyed both GREATLY. Taste of Lee’s Summit is an evening of fundraising for the Lee’s Summit Educational Foundation to help students across the LS school district. You’ll be able to sample food from various vendors, make bids on fantastic donations from the community and interact with a diverse group of people. We need at least 10 volunteers for this event and there are positions for standing, sitting and walking around. LSWMP receives $2500 from this partnership that helps pay for various things including awards.
For the Taste of Lee’s Summit we have been asked to get donations from area businesses to be auctioned off at the event. We are in need of some volunteers to take a packet and contact the businesses on each list to get these as soon as possible. If you are interested in helping with this please contact Mary Grigsby at 785-5215.

Upcoming events:
January 21 – Music parent meeting 7pm
January 27-30 – MMEA
February 25 – Symphonic Band and 8th grade band concert
March 4-5 – District solo/small ensemble
March 5 – Taste of Lee’s Summit 4pm-10pm

Marching Band 2016

Happy New Year, and welcome to the Titan Pride Band Program.

First, on Thursday, February 25th, the Symphonic Band from LSW and the SLMS 8th Grade Concert Band will be having a joint concert here at LSWHS in the Performing Arts Center at 7pm. Students will have a joint rehearsal that evening on stage with Mr. Knapp at 6pm.

During this time, I would like to invite all parents of 8th grade students (or any current high school parents who wish to come) for an introductory meeting to the high school band program. I will cover everything you might need to know entering high school as it pertains to band.

Second, here are the dates for our summer band camps. Please get them in your calendar now to prevent conflicts from arising.

Drumline Camp (ALL percussionists in the program)
July 18-22, 2016 – 8am to 4pm

Band Camp (ALL members of the band program, including percussionists)
July 25-29, 2016 — 8am to 4pm

If you have ANY questions, don’t hesitate to ask them. Otherwise, you will be receiving regular emails throughout this semester to prepare you for next year.

Many blessings!
