Music Festival Volunteers Needed

District Solo/Small Ensemble Festival was a great success! Thanks to the wonderful parents that volunteered their time to support the incredibly talented kids in the LSW music department. We had 85 parent volunteers that together volunteered over 400 hours. I know that the staff and kids appreciated our support.

We still need volunteers for the State Large Ensemble Festival. Dates are:

· Wed, Mar. 26th from 2:30pm to 9:30pm

· Thurs, Mar. 27th from 12:30pm to 10:00pm

· Fri, Mar. 28th from 2:30pm to 9:00pm

· Sat, Mar. 29th from 7:30am to 7:30pm

Volunteering during the Large Ensemble portion of contest will give you the opportunity to listen to some fantastic groups. Here is a brief description of the volunteer positions:

· Door Monitor: Ensure doors remain closed during performances and assist with crowd flow between performances

· Director Check In: Collect music and stage setup from directors and answer general questions

· Group Escort: Escorts groups from gymnasium to warm-up room

· Sight Reading: Hand music out to students and collect music after performance

· Stage Manager: Manage students in preparing stage for each performing group

There are also more opportunities for students to volunteer during the Large Ensemble portion of contest. Student sign-up sheets are posted outside the choir room.

Please go to Charms to volunteer for a shift. If you have any problems with Charms, please contact me.

Letħ really show our support for the music program and show up with an army of volunteers. The more volunteers that we have, the more fun we will have!

Titan Pride Update, Contest Edition

Happy Monday-after-spring break,

It’s CONTEST TIME!!!!!!

Here is the schedule for THIS week’s solo and ensemble schedule:
(See attached PDF file below)
Students should be on campus preparing for their performance no later than 45 minutes prior to performance time. In addition, even though this is our school, students will not have access to the band room or choir room during the contest, so instruments and music will need to go home with them Friday after school.
Performers should be dressed up for their performance, i.e. tuxedo, business casual, shirt/tie, dress, skirt, etc….

We are still in desperate need of volunteers to run the festival Saturday. We need room monitors in a major way. Please go to CHARMS to sign up to help. It is much appreciated. Also, you can contact Nancy Shaeffer for more information (nancyj1013@gmail.com).

For all band students NOT listed on the contest schedule, they will be attending the Lee’s Summit Festival on Tuesday, April 8 at LSHS (more info to come in a couple of weeks)

Large Group Contest is NEXT week.

Concert Band
Concert Band will perform at 3pm on Wednesday, March 26 in the LSW PAC. The performance is open to the public, so if you are able, please attend their performance. Students are to bring their tuxedo/concert dresses to school that day as they will not have an opportunity to go home before the performance. Students will be finished around 4pm.

4th Hour Percussion Ensemble
Percussion Ensemble will perform at 4:55pm on Wednesday, March 26 in the LSW PAC. The performance is open to the public, so if you are able, please attend their performance. Students are to bring their tuxedo/concert dresses to school that day as they will not have an opportunity to go home before the performance. Students will be finished around 5:15pm.

Symphonic Band
Symphonic Band will perform at 3pm on Friday, March 28 in the LSW PAC. The performance is open to the public, so if you are able, please attend their performance. Titan Pride Update February 21

Good morning!

Points of update for this month!

  • Summer school registration – for many, it is crucial to take summer school to free up space in their schedule for additional classes. Registration recently opened this week. Please register now. Take PE, or Personal Finance, or Health, etc……
  • Physicals for next year – all marching band members for 2014 need a current physical exam on file that was given AFTER February 1st. You can start this process now, but it NEEDS to be done before your child’s first day of band this summer. There are physical exams being given at the school district NEXT Saturday. Please contact Monte Seabaugh or Debbie Katzfey for more information.
  • Basketball Game performance – a reminder that students need to be at school on Tuesday night for our performance at the LSW basketball game. Our call time is 6:30pm. Students should be wearing blue jeans and Titan Pride apparel on top. We should be finished about 8:30pm, maybe earlier, but students will text parents in the 4th quarter.
  • PIZZA NIGHT – On Monday night, Sarpino’s Pizza in Lee’s Summit is giving us 10% of the proceeds for delivery or carryout orders from 4pm to 9pm. Please eat your dinner there Monday night. Here is a flyer for you to hand out to your neighbors as well.
  • Solo/Small Ensemble Contest – Students are currently being registered for one of two contests to perform their solo or small ensemble performance that is required for our class. Some students will be registered for District Solo/Ensemble Contest on March 22nd (students who earn a 1 rating here will move on to State Contest on May 2nd). Some students will be registered for Lee’s Summit Contest on April 8th, which satisfies the class and letter requirement, but does not make them eligible for State. Students are fully aware how/why these decisions are made
  • Washington DC Trip 2015 – We ARE going on the trip next March. Students who are already registered for the trip need to stay current on their payments (there was a $100 payment due on February 15th and another $100 payment due on March 15th). Attached is a registration form which, if you have not already done so, must be filled out and either turned into the directors by Monday, or mailed into the company right away. Students who have not signed up to go on the trip yet, but are still interested, please contact me for more information about how we can make this happen: Individual Registration Form – Lee’s Summit
  • Percussionists continuing in band next year – Attached you will find the information/dates for this year’s audition clinics and audition date. They begin NEXT Wednesday. Drumline Clinic Schedule.docx

Have a great weekend!
